Brazilian butt lift involves two procedures; liposuction and fat grafting to increase the size of your buttocks. It is a cosmetic procedure that uses a method called lipoinjection. Lipoinjection takes fat from different areas of your body and adds it to your buttocks. Fatty tissue that has been removed from other areas of the body is placed into the buttocks to enhance their size and shape. This results in larger, rounder buttocks, and a more curvaceous lower body profile.
When fat is taken from a part of the body, typically the abdomen, thighs, or stomach, it is then purified. Once this fat is purified, selected fat cells are injected into the buttocks. Patients undergo this procedure under general anesthesia, and the procedure typically lasts about two hours.
Because the patient’s own fat is used for the procedure, it eliminates the chance that the injected cells will be rejected by the body. The body dissolves some of the fat that is transferred but about 60 to 70 percent of the tissue survives in the buttocks.
Are you a candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Patients who are candidates for Brazilian butt lift typically complain that their buttocks are too small or flat. The patient may also feel that their buttocks are not proportionate with the rest of their body. Ideally the patient should have some fat on the area of their body that is surrounding the buttock. These areas include, below and above the buttocks, thighs, hips, and lower back.
The patient’s skin should not be saggy; it should be in good condition. The procedure will fill out a small amount of the sagging skin but if the patient has significant amounts of skin then surgical skin excision may be required to achieve a good result. Patients with minimal or almost no excessive fatty issue in other body areas are not good candidates for this surgery. There would not be enough of the patients own fatty tissue to be used to fill out the buttocks. An ideal candidate for this surgery would be a patient who has realistic goals and who is physically healthy and at a normal weight. The patient should also have skin that is sufficiently firm and elastic. During a comprehensive consultation, Dr. Mirabile will carefully evaluate the patient’s candidacy for buttock lift.
What to Expect: The results from this procedure can vary. The amount of fatty tissue that survives and the amount that is grafted all affect the final result.
Right after surgery, your buttocks will be larger. They are larger because of the new fatty tissue that was injected into your buttocks and the swelling that occurs because of the surgery. The swelling will disappear within three to six weeks. About twelve weeks after the surgery, you will be left with the final result of your Brazilian butt lift.
Recovery: Brazilian butt lift is performed on an outpatient basis. Patients who undergo this surgery should plan on taking a week off from work for their recovery. During this time, the patient may experience discomfort because movements may irritate the treated area. The areas where liposuction was performed may also be tender. The patient is not allowed to sit on their buttocks for 10 days to two weeks after their procedure. The patient must refrain from sitting because the transferred fat needs to get bloody supply and begin to grow and develop in its new environment. If the patient sits, blood will have difficulty reaching and supplying the new fat cells. The patient will need to wear garment after their Brazilian butt lift, just like liposuction procedures. The garment will need to be after the procedure for about one month’s time, to make sure the treated areas heal properly and with the right shape. After healing, the patient can progressively return to their daily schedule. This includes things such as exercise, lifting objects and sexual activity. Patients may begin non-impact exercises in two weeks. Full strenuous activity may begin in week six.
To make your recovery easier and more comfortable be sure to:
- Have someone take you home and take care of you for at least the first 24 hours.
- Fill your prescriptions or have someone do it for you and place them within reach of where you will be resting.
- Have sufficient pillows, a spare compression, and hand towels for drainage nearby.
After the surgery patients should expect swelling, bruising and some pain. Numbness in areas that have been treated is normal for a short time, then the nerves will regrow and you will regain feeling. Swelling from this procedure may last for a few months.
Final results of the Brazilian butt lift are seen about twelve weeks after the procedure. If the patient keeps up with exercise and a healthy diet the treated areas should look great and they should maintain their new and sculpted appearance.
