Fillers & Lip Augmentation
There are many non-surgical options for achieving softer and smoother facial contours. Fillers are injectables most commonly composed of modified formulations of hyaluronic acid (HA), a non-reactive, hydrating material used to treat everything from superficial facial creases to deeper facial volume loss. There are also fillers made of other materials that may aid in stimulating collagen formation, another method for achieving improved facial volume and contour.
Juvederm Ultra & Juvederm Ultra Plus
For the facial lines and wrinkles that are common signs of aging, Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus are two of our most popular treatments. These HA fillers are used to smooth and soften moderate to severe facial wrinkles at areas such as the nasolabial folds and perioral region, or the appearance of “parentheses” around your mouth. They can also be used to achieve fuller lips and improve contours at the lower eyelid-cheek junction. Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus may last up to one year with optimal treatment, though individual results may vary.
As you age, it’s not just about lines and wrinkles. Your cheeks can lose volume and skin may begin to sag. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is the first FDA-approved injectable HA gel to instantly add volume to your cheek area to correct age-related volume loss. It can provide you contour and a subtle lift for up to two years with optimal treatment.*
How do Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Voluma ™ XC Work?
Dr. Mirabile, Dr. Hsu, and Dr. Taglienti and our Nurse Injectors inject these fillers under the skin with a small needle. They work instantly to soften wrinkles and subtly lift the cheek area, temporarily reversing these signs of aging. To reduce discomfort during the procedure, these fillers contain a numbing agent called lidocaine. For best results, we recommend not participating in vigorous physical activity for 24 hours after treatment and to use ice to decrease bruising and swelling at the treated areas.
The newest HA filler, Volbella is formulated specifically for lip augmentation and for treating fine lines and vertical wrinkles around the lips. With properties similar to Voluma but modified for lips and the facial skin around the lips, Volbella provides natural-appearing, fuller lips and smoother skin around the lips stably for up to one year with optimal treatment.
For patients who are concerned with the vertical lines around their lips or fine facial wrinkles, Belotero is an HA designed specifically for injection within the skin for direct treatment. This HA formulation is optimal for integrating within finer lines at areas of delicate and thinner skin. Belotero may last up to six months, which may be ideal for patients who are new to fillers.
Sculptra is an injectable made of poly-L-lactic acid, a material that is meant to stimulate collagen formation. Collagen is a major component of skin structure and elasticity. Sculptra is injected within the deepest layer of the skin to form a scaffolding for collagen growth. Common treatment areas include the nasolabial fold region and lower cheek hollowing. Most patients will see improvement within 4-6 weeks, with some requiring more than one treatment separated by 4-6 weeks, and sustained improvement for up to two years.*
As we age, sometimes our lips begin to lose volume and become thinner. With lip enhancement you can get fuller, plumper lips. Lip enlargement procedures are used to create larger, fuller upper and lower lips using injected material, often called “fillers” such as Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Volbella. Lip enlargement can be done with implantable materials such as Gortex or the patient’s own fat. Dr. Mirabile’s, Dr. Hsu’s, and Dr. Taglienti’s nurse injectors are able to create full, beautiful lips on anyone who desires this treatment.
How is this procedure done?
Fillers are injected into the lips with very fine needles. Because of the fine needles used, no scars are created. After treatment, it is possible that the patient will have a little bruising or swelling. Procedures using fillers only takes about thirty minutes. Filler injections are not permanent, but they can be repeated once or twice a year so that you may keep your beautiful, full lips.
Lip enhancement utilizing an implantable material or your own fat requires a surgical procedure. Often, this procedure can be done under local anesthesia. Most patients are pleased with the outcome of lip enhancement.
